This camp is actually the best of two camps combined into one: Digital Photography & Photobook Design!

Digital Photography: Do you like to take pictures but would like to get more creative with your camera? This camp will cover equipment, basic settings, composition and light, image processing and an introduction to Photoshop. Photography is all about the light (in fact, “photo” means light) and during this course you will learn how to find good light, see the direction of light and learn how to shape light so that your photographs will shine! We will be taking a field trip to Fort Langley where photo ops are around every corner. Students will take home a DVD of their work. Students need to bring a camera; any camera will do, but a digital point-and-shoot or DSLR camera is recommended.

Photobook Design: Does your family gather around the computer to look at vacation photos? Are all your photos still in digital form? Wouldn’t it be terrific to have a custom-made photo album, designed by YOU, sitting on your coffee table for everyone to enjoy? In this course, we are going to create and publish digital press-printed photo albums. You will learn about design, colour theme, font styles and most-importantly, story-telling. Your friends and family will be astounded when they discover that you made it yourself! Choose a theme such as a birthday party, a family vacation, your friends, or even the pictures that you take in this camp.  All the tools, teaching and software that you need will be provided.

Please bring digital photos on a USB drive or DVD. The photo albums will be sent to print and will be available to pick up at the school office in August. This is the kind of course that a high school student (or even adult) could take as you can make it as complex and creative as you want.

Evelyn Ford has been the computer instructor at Pacific Academy’s Intermediate School for fifteen years. She looks forward to her tenth summer working with children at PACE.
